Solution The theoretical absolute maximum speed available via ADSL in South Africa at the moment is 4096kbps downstream and 384kpbs upstream (these speeds are not guaranteed by Telkom). However, the speed you will experience will vary greatly as it is influenced by several factors such as:

- The speed of the line you purchase from Telkom / The speed of the Uncapped ADSL account you select from your ISP.

- Quality and interference on the copper cable linking you to the exchange (Telkom line).

- Congestion between your local Telkom exchange and Telkom's centralised broadband servers.
